Edge’09 – technical festival – 4,5 April – Techno India

untitled11
The edge of any reason or belief is limited by the ability of the mind to think. It is very easy to be a nobody, but for those who want to be somebody, the journey is never easy. One has to push oneself and push hard to be somebody. One has to face challenges, enjoy them and be ready to put in everything for the cause. We at Techno India provide you with this unique opportunity at EDGE – the annual technical fest of Techno India. An extravaganza with eighteen events spread over seven categories. The largest fest of its kind in the whole of Kolkata, this is the place where you will get the chance to meet, make friends and challenge the best budding brains from all across the country. Be here and be ready to face the challenges.

EVENTS:

What started off as a part of a general college fest now stands independently victorious and popular. Yes, it’s Edge that has been setting standards of not only talent but also participation.
Edge ’08 started with unexpectedly low online participation for some events, but what the event days saw was better than any sought for dream. Participants flowed in and filled every corner of Techno India with talented participation.
To speak of hard work, no words can describe the days of sincere effort from all the Edge members. The event days, the busiest ones of course, witnessed unlimited fun. Tension was on 24 hours in the battleground of talent. That was Edge ’08 in limited words.

Robotics:

The technical side of every participant is bound to be thrilled to bits witnessing the on-going tension. INS Viraat had water splashing all around with the robots struggling to pass through the obstacles and bursting the bomb balloons in the naval war. Jack and Jill, the forever famous nursery rhyme, had the robots working to carry water from source to destination over a bridge without tumbling like Jack and Jill. But what did not step back in terms of excitement was Basketball – the basketball game where instead of humans in jerseys were robots with mechanical hands trying to basket as many balls as possible.

Create-It:

Where robotics had the technical side on work, Create-It was not behind. It had the innovative skills teaming up with technical knowledge to fight it out in the battleground of ultimate skilled participants. Mekanix tested problem solving skills, creativity and the ability of converting junk to a working machine. The night went sleepless with participants working through the night preparing a boat made of bottles and ply board to cross a swimming pool. Make A Bot was all about presence of mind, time management skills and planning. The aim was to make a robot with the provided equipments in given time as per a given problem. Rags to riches had everyone waiting to see if the bridges made of ice-cream sticks, cello-tapes and threads could withstand the required weight.

Compute-Aid:

Computers, the favorite technical console of every engineer, made minds work tirelessly for hours with mind bending events. Steal It Away, the online event, was all about legal stealth surpassing vigilant eyes of digital police. Flawless, on the other hand, had people debugging C programs and coding problems in limited time. Buggy PC made people scratching heads while trying to remove the virus from the purposefully infected computers. Netwagon’s output was bunch of lovely looking functional interactive websites designed by the participants then and there, whereas, Animax brought out the animating skills and innovation with Macromedia Flash. Who could even imagine that computers and engineers didn’t just mean work? For, at the Edge, we saw work, skills and ultimate fun.

Cyber-Crusade:

Can anyone pass by a computer with games without even touching the keyboard once? I don’t think so. Well at Edge we saw that enthusiasm in almost every participant. People flowed in and out the gaming room. Counter Strike 1.6, I believe there is hardly a soul who doesn’t know about this game. Well it had its spell cast here too. People were seen shouting with excitement, planning and cunningly dropping bombs on the opponent team. And if I have to describe NFS Carbon, well, the heat was really on. The cars were streaming past the virtual sceneries but were blowing all heads off with the speed. And for FIFA ’08, hands worked as hard as possible to run the legs of the players on the ground. The tension though kept building off the ground too. Overall, the gaming rooms were the most popular and the most crowded place at the Edge through the days.

Newron:

If brains aren’t tickled at a technical event then the fest goes past incomplete. So Edge had its corner of ticklers and teasers exclusively for the brain cells. Electronically Yours was the event with questionnaires till practical hardware implementation of circuits on the spot. ICs, bread boards and wires made participants’ neurons go tied up in simple circuitry knowledge while managing time at the same time. But this corner was just not about Electronically Yours; for there was Brain Teaser, teasing brain cells with simple yet confusing, known yet forgotten puzzles during this event. Summarizing, this set of events had the brain cells working as well as having fun.

Just Like That:

This set of events was about pure fun. Klik, the digital photography event had people go around the campus taking photographs whenever they could creating a collection of brilliantly captured moments of Edge, whereas Kosmetic Surgery saw faces turn into canvases painted with all colours speaking for the inlaid messages. Khul Ja Sim Sim, the ultimate treasure hunt with a technical twist made participants running around the college campus in search of clues and the jackpot! And to add the last bit of technical touch to the fest the Kuiz was full of questions that kept minds busy all through the time. Just Like That may sound casual, but this set of events spoke the language of fun with a technical touch to it.

Masti Ki Paathshala:

As for entertainment Edge doesn’t lay back and relax, instead a number of on-stage events fill the entertainment corner of the Edge.
