About University: Sri Krishnadevaraya University had its beginning as the Post Graduate Centre of Sri Venkateswara University in the year 1968. It has gained autonomy in the year 1976. Fulfilling the desires of the people of the region, the Autonomous Post Graduate centre was given the status of the University in the Year 1981. The University initially functioned as a unitary residential University and was conferred the status of an affiliating University in the year 1987. Presently, it is catering to the higher educational needs of the revenue districts of Rayalaseema.

About the College of Eng. & Technol.:

University College of Engineering & Technology, Sri Krishnadevaraya University was established in 2006 to cater the needs of students coming from the highly draught prone area of Andhra Pradesh such as Anantapur, Kurnool etc., It has grown to occupy a unique place among University College of engineering of its kind in the southern part of the country, given its active involvement in training the students in the fields of ECE, CSE, EEE and Biotechnology.

About the Dept. of Biotechnology:

The department of Biotechnology has a wide range of equipments such as UV visible spectrophotometer, Plant growth chamber, Hi-speed centrifuges, Gel documentation, Electrophoresis apparatus etc., Highly qualified faculty in recent fields of Biotechnology is an asset of the department with proven record of Major research projects sanctioned by UGC, New Delhi operation and publications in reputed journals.

The Theme

Biology in the 21st century is being transformed from a purely lab-based science to an information science as well.  Over the past few decades, major advances in the field of molecular biology coupled with advances in genomic technologies, have led to an explosive growth in the Biotechnology generated by the scientific community.  The need for Biotechnology capabilities has been precipitated by the explosion of research work in the field of medicine, agriculture etc., The research of Biotechnology is essential in understanding human diseases and in identification of new molecular targets for drug discovery. In recognition of this, many universities, government institutions and pharmaceutical firms have formed biotechnology groups, consisting of scientists working in the advanced fields of biochemistry, microbiology, botany, zoology.   There is a greater necessity to create a scientific platform for various categories of people of biological sciences to expose them to this emerging field of Biotechnology.  The present symposium provides an opportunity for sharing of the rich experience of senior researchers from different national Institutes with that of young generation and surely motivates them towards biotechnological research.   The exposure given to participating faculty through the present seminar in turn will be spread to the student community also.

Objectives

There is a greater necessity to create a scientific platform for various categories of people of biological sciences to expose them to the emerging trends in Biotechnology after genomic era.   Biotechnology has been introduced as important component of engineering studies hence it is highly essential to expose the students and faculty to this newly emerged trends in Biotechnology which can be achieved possibly by participating in national level seminars.  High importance is given in formulating the seminar program to provide opportunity to present various recent trends of Biotechnology either by oral (ppt’s) or poster sessions.  Further the present seminar has been planned to expose the participants to the invited lectures by eminent persons from national institutes. Thus the participation of faculty through the present seminar by and large indirectly the student community also will get benefited through the exposure gained by their participating faculty.

How and Who can apply: All the students pursuing B.Tech/ M.Tech /M.Sc./ Pharmacy/ degree in Biotechnology related fields are eligible to register and participate in oral presentation (ppt’s) or poster sessions of the symposium.  Students desire to participate the seminar should send their abstract with registration form (fee to be paid at the time of registration) to biozyme2009@gmail.com only on or before 19-12-2009. The Abstract has to be sent in MS word, not more than 350 words in Times new roman 12 font format, single space with underline the presenting authors.  Abstract should be sent in soft copy through corresponding author e-mail. Students has to submit Bonafide certificate from the college.
